Welcome to 2024 and a Happy New Year to all! This year I expect that the pace of change will dramatically accelerate in the world of AI. I also expect that we’ll be here with you every step of the way to give you the news, insights and tips on how to understand this new world…and make no mistake, that is what we are on the cusp of, a new world, as you will see below. So buckle up and let’s dive right in!

News

Google set to potentially replace 30,000 staff with AI: I guess if you are at the forefront of AI you have to be looking at all the ways to maximise your business as a result. Get the full story here of how Google plan to change the face of their ad sales team with AI.

This year’s Consumer Electronics Show will be all about AI: at last January’s premier tech products show there was very little hype around AI, and very little to turn heads from an AI perspective. This year, from January 9th, CES in Las Vegas will rock with a tsunami of AI and robotics. Read about it here.

US Chief Justice suggests that AI will be transformative: US Chief Justice John Roberts has had a lot to say about AI and the judiciary. He doesn’t think that judges will be replaced anytime soon, but he does believe that AI will transform the work of the legal profession. Read more here.

Bill Gates believes 2024 will see huge medical advances thanks to AI: this is the year that medical AI will truly find its feet, claims Gates. The Microsoft founder, whose foundation is heavily invested in the medical field, list several areas here that he believes will be transormed through AI.

Wearable throat sensor predicts health data at >90% accuracy: a new health device developed at Penn State University, is set to revolutionise the health sensor market. One minutes data collection followed by three hours of training on the collceted data can deliver health predictions with incredible accuracy. Read all about it here.

Not everybody is keen on paying for AI tools. Most want to try free versions, at least at first. Here is a list of both paid and free tools that are worth exploring and using.

One of the questions that I get asked a lot seems to be very philosophical: are AI’s conscious and if not currently, will they be? Not exactly a prompt for you in this section, but all driven by AI. Here’s a conversation with an AI called Haley that might help answer the question! Is this a glimpse into our future? Well worth watching!

It’s amazing to think that this kind of interaction is happening now, whereas a single year ago none of this was thought possible. What will the world be like when we layer on another year of progress. Haley was made using Mistral AI, a recent LLM release, entirely open sourced and free.
