Slightly off the beaten track for me this week, but bear with me. I was looking through OpenAI’s own GPT’s to see if there was anything that got the juices flowing that I could share with you. Somewhat whimsically, I elected to look at their Planty GPT. Planty is an AI that knows all things gardening and plants. Not my most favourite topic, but I created compost and planted herbs and veretables right through lockdown and had been toying with the idea of growing some tomatoes, the small juicy kind. Planty didn’t let me down…

What variety of tomatoes are small, juicy and easy to grow?

“Oh, you're looking for some delightful little tomatoes to jazz up your garden! Small, juicy varieties are fantastic for snacking, salads, or just popping in your mouth straight off the vine. Here are a few favorites that pack a juicy punch:

1. Cherry Tomatoes: These are the go-to for many gardeners because they're super sweet and incredibly juicy. Varieties like 'Sweet Million', 'Sun Gold', and 'Black Cherry' are just bursting with flavor.

2. Grape Tomatoes: A bit firmer than cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes like 'Juliet' and 'Sugar Rush' still offer a nice burst of juiciness with a sweeter, more concentrated flavor.

3. Pear Tomatoes: Shaped like a pear, these little cuties, such as 'Yellow Pear' and 'Red Pear', offer a unique appearance and a juicy, mild flavor that's perfect for snacking.

4. Currant Tomatoes: These are the tiniest tomatoes you can grow, with varieties like 'Sweet Pea' producing loads of pea-sized tomatoes that are super juicy and flavorful.

When you're deciding which varieties to plant, consider your climate and growing conditions, as some varieties might perform better in your area than others. And don't forget to provide your tomatoes with plenty of sunshine, consistent watering (but not too much!), and a bit of support as they grow. Happy gardening!”

There you have it! If you you have the urge to get all green fingers, then you could do a lot worse than chatting your plans through with Planty. Give it a try…
