This is the sound...

#56

Another week, another breakthrough. It seems that every week brings some new thing that marks a new high bar. This week, it has been audio creation with the launch of Stable Audio v2.0 - let’s dive in…

Stable Audio was launched in October last year to much fanfare. By simply loading a prompt, you could generate a small audio file that would be AI generated. It was pretty neat, but not massively functional giving 20-30 seconds of generated sounds at not very high resolution. It was still at the time though, enough to blow your socks off as this had never been done before!

Now comes version 2.0 to raise the bar yet again. It’s also super easy for you to try (I appreciate that some of the things I rant on about require a subscription to get the most out of them. This is different) and I would encourage you to do so. Simply go to stableaudio.com/generate fill in a prompt, press generate and wait less than a minute to get a 3 minute sound track. Here’s an example I tried with the following prompt:

Ibiza summer trance mix, cheerful, summer nights, dance to the beats

In return for such a brilliant suggestion, you get the this (please click to listen).

If this doesn’t make you think of summer in the sun, then not much will!

Not only can you generate your own music from scratch - just a simple prompt - but you can also load some of your own music which the AI will then use as the basis of a fresh generation along similar lines.

The world of music creation and I suppose the whole notion of what it means to be an artist is being brought into question. Will this mean the end of the pop superstar? Of course not. But will it start to challenge the edges of what it means to make music and create audio content, then that’s absolutely going to happen. I should add that any music created using Stable Audio can be used commercially at no cost.

I’m off to go and try my hand at generating some more music for my own playlist. See you next time…
